The Provincial Nominee Program stands out as a major pathway to Canadian immigration in 2024, enabling provinces and territories to pick off immigrants selected based on the direct economic needs of a province or a particular territory. Targeted draws by the PNP have made it increasingly concerned with targeted draws, showing how alive and vibrant the Canadian immigration landscape remains this year.
Unpacking the 2024 PNP Draw Trends
Strategic Shift towards Specialized PNP Draws
The provinces of Ontario, British Columbia, and Alberta have been focusing on carrying out draws that target candidates with skills in high demand sectors. The high demand sectors have been majorly the healthcare, technology, construction, and childcare sectors. For instance, the British Columbia draws have been known to target tech-related professionals, professionals connected to healthcare, and childcare specialists, where the province conducted as many as 72 invitations in its recent draw on July 16, 2024. Alberta has also brought out specialized streams for healthcare professionals since the sector is facing a
shortage there.
1. CRS Cut-offs and Rise in Competition:
The cut-offs for PNP-linked Express Entry draws involving the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) have fluctuated but, on the whole, are rising in 2024. Ontario's Express Entry Skilled Trades stream issued 1,277 invitations last July with a CRS cut-off of 408 to 435, among others. A growing number of skilled workers are seeking permanent residency through the PNP and submit competitive enough profiles to meet these higher thresholds, language proficiency, education, and work experience.
