1.Duration and Flexibility: Visa holders can reside in Australia for up to four years. Notably, Sthe SID visa provides greater flexibility, allowing holders to change employers more easily, with 180-day period to secure a new sponsor if their employment ends.
2.Pathways to Permanent Residency: The SID visa operates under three distinct streams to cater to various skill levels and industry needs.
- Specialist Sills Stream: Targeted at high-earning applicants with specialized expertise. This stream recognises the value of niche skills that are critical to specific sectors.
- Core Skills Strea: Focused on occupations listed in the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL), which includes roles essential to the Australian economy. This stream addresses widespread skill shortages in vital industries.
- Essential Skills Stream: Aimed at roles that are fundamental to the functioning of various industries, ensuring that essential services and operations are maintained.
Salary Thresholds and Employer Obligations
To maintain fair labor standards and attract qualified professionals, the SID visa stipulates minimum income thresholds:
- Specialist Skills Stream: A minimum of $135, 000.
- Core Skills Stream: A minimum salary of $73, 150, subject to annual indexation.
Employers are required to demonstrate genuine efforts to recruit locally before seeking overseas talent. They must also ensure they can meet market salary rates for the entire nomination period, underscoring a commitment to fair compensation practices.
Application Process and Labor Market Testing
The application process for the SID visa involves several key steps:
1.Eligibility Assessment: To be eligible you must:
- be nominated for a skilled position by an approved sponsor
- have the right skills to do the job
- meet the relevant English language requirements
2.Sponsorship and Nomination: Securing an employer to sponsor and nominate the applicant.
3.Documentation: Compiling required documentation from both the applicant and employer, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
4.Submission: Submitting the complete application to the Australian immigration authorities for consideration.
Streamlined labor market testing (LMT) requirements have been introduced. Notably, the requirement to advertise on Workforce Australia has been removed, simplifying the process for employers.
